John Baird is an Ann Arbor-based furniture designer whose client-commissioned projects range from household furniture and kitchens to store fixtures and commercial interiors. Most recently John designed a series of stools and chairs for Comet Coffee in Ann Arbor’s Nickels Arcade ⎯ complementing his earlier work there. Other past commercial projects include Salon 344 and Atys ⎯ a modern home furnishings boutique formerly on Main Street. John is also an avid photographer and enjoys collaborating with colleagues (architects, performers, and other furniture designers) on projects including museum exhibits, art installations and theater sets. In the last few years, he has served as an intermittent lecturer at the University of Michigan School of Art & Design, his alma mater. John lives and works on an old farmstead outside of Ann Arbor in Dexter, Michigan.
